hof Zuort

Peace, tranquility and attentive hosts

This authentic medieval mountain shelter has been a member of the Swiss Historic Hotel group since October 2012.

New in Zuort: Since the end of October, the historic carillon sounds again after a 40-year break.

Hof Zuort is a historic hamlet nestled at the end of the Sinestra Valley in the Lower Engadine. The inn and stable, chalet and chapel have been preserved as an ensemble in form and function making the Hof Zuort Farmstead the most tranquil, nature oriented get-away experience within the Swiss Historic Hotel group. Historically furnished guest rooms are located in the original farmhouse as well as in a chalet built at the end of the 19th Century. The restaurant is found in the farmhouse. It is ajoined by a sheltered veranda and sunny terrace on the houses southside. Stop for a refreshing meal or stay overnight – guests have the choice.

In winter, walk along five kilometers of path through crunching snow, shady forest and ravine. In the silence you can almost hear the snowflakes falling. Step out of dark firs and into the clearing. The view of the wonderland set before you is breathtaking. Peace reigns. The only sound you may hear is the occasional chiming of the chapel bells that lends itself to the serenity of the place. No artificial light disturbs the starry sky at night. The proximity of the mighty spruce and larch forest, and at the same time the distant view through the untouched valley to the mountain horizon of the lower Engadine make you marvel and reflect.

Simple life at a high-level includes: daily hospitality in well-kept accommodations and food provided largely through organic agricultural practice. In by-gone times, Zuort was a waystation and hospice on the old trade route from Engadine to Paznaun. Today, the grandeur of the setting is accompanied by attentive cordiality and care offered to guests. What we do reflects a way of life rarely exhibited in today’s world. Hospitality remains a hallmark of the Hof Zuort experience.

From May 1, 2024, a family of gastronomes from South Tyrol will take over, who have called the Engadine their home for many years, Sarah Scarperi & Reinhard Psenner, with his son Daniel, who appreciate the Romansh culture and adorn it with South Tyrolean hospitality. Passion, courage & joy paired with a touch of humor are the hallmarks of Hof Zuort. With common sense and gut feeling, with head and heart, open and fair. Privileged to be able to work and live in this historic house in a unique natural setting.

If you happen to ask a guest, especially of international clientele: “how did you happen to choose Zuort to be your Swiss Alpine destination and was it the right choice for you?” The answer is predictable: “Zuort is the ultimate get-away. My life is generally lived from one appointment to another. My world is one of hustle and bustle. Everyday seems overpacked. I needed to come to a place where I could relax, be quiet and recuperate from my hectic life-patterns. I wanted a place where I could feel the earth under my feet, see the heavens undisturbed, and still feel at home and get well-taken care of. I came to Zuort to restore my soul. It worked! Thank you!”
